Consisting of four modules, Civic Tech in Open Smart Cities (PE102) is a basic course exploring civic tech, a movement in which citizens and governments work together to use technology & design for public good.

Open Smart Cities have the opportunity to foster civic tech in their communities to grow public engagement and to enhance digital services in ways that are more inclusive, responsive, innovative, open and citizen-centred.

Once you have finished Civic Tech in Open Smart Cities, you should have an increased awareness and understanding of:

1. The growing importance of Civic Tech, globally as well as in Canada
Introduction: What exactly is civic tech?

2. Examples of civic tech initiatives and resources that are available to foster Civic Tech in your community
Exploration: What are the benefits of civic tech?

3. The benefits of fostering Civic Tech for smart city initiatives
Action: How do we engage citizens?

4. Actions that could be used to engage and support Civic Tech
Action: How can civic tech enable technology and innovation?
